Boulevardia is an annual event held in the Kansas City area that celebrates a vibrant mix of beer, food, music, and local art. While most attendees buzzed about the beer selections, my son and I were more focused on one delicious item: BACON!

Our first stop at Boulevardia is always the Farmland Bacon Club tent. Get ready for your mouth to water as the smell of freshly cooked bacon fills the air long before you arrive.

As everyone knows, bacon is the star of the show, and many others agreed. The tent buzzed with fellow bacon enthusiasts, and whether you prefer your bacon crispy or chewy, there were countless samples to enjoy. My son eagerly opted for a crispy piece before heading to the main stage for the Farmland Bacon Eating Contest.

While my son tasted his samples, I explored the rest of the Farmland tent. I was delighted by their custom screen-printed t-shirts featuring catchy phrases like “You Had Me At Bacon,” “I (beer mug) Bacon,” and “Dads Are Like Bacon: They Make Everything Better” (perfect for the upcoming Father’s Day). It was wonderful to see so many people proudly showcasing their love for bacon throughout the event.

At the tent, we also made sure to sign up for the Farmland Bacon Club (it’s free!) for a chance to win a year’s supply of bacon. The registration process was quick and simple, allowing us plenty of time to check out other delicious offerings before heading to the main stage!

My son was eager to defend his 2015 Bacon Eating Contest title against eight other bacon-loving contestants. Each participant received a plate of 30 bacon pieces, and the objective was to finish first.

It was a neck-and-neck competition; my son (on the left) found himself trailing the leader, Dennis Montgomery (on the right), and decided to make a bold move by cramming the remaining pieces on his plate into his mouth.

Ultimately, Dennis won by finishing all his bacon in under 2 minutes, taking home the trophy and a year’s worth of Farmland Bacon.

We had a fantastic time at the West Bottoms in Kansas City. The live music, refreshing beer, and of course, lots of bacon made for a memorable weekend.
