Fans of the Kansas City Royals are incredibly passionate. As you approach the ballpark, you can feel the energy and excitement buzzing in the air. Despite the long lines and bright sun, everyone we encountered was in high spirits, eager for the event that lay ahead.
The match on September 3, 2016, was particularly special as it celebrated Bacon Day at the K, sponsored by Farmland Foods.
What does this entail?
As soon as we entered, we were greeted with Let’s Go Royals bacon-themed rally signs to cheer on our team during the game.
We also encountered delicious bacon samples available for everyone (and who could resist?!). It was fun to see fans sporting Team Chewy and Team Crispy (my personal favorite!) t-shirts.
Our team mascot, Sluggerrr, was even created in bacon and available for photos at the Sizzle & Snap booth.
The biggest highlight for our group was definitely the Salvy Perez bobblehead!
Once we settled down, we explored the activities. The kids enjoyed guessing how many bacon strips made up Slugerrr (with a chance to win bacon for a year!).
They also had the opportunity to meet five-time All-Star and the 26th member of the Royals Hall of Fame, Mike Sweeney.
The highlight of the evening for me was the Royals Charities 50/50 Raffle.
Why? Because the winner not only walked away with a year’s supply of Farmland bacon, but the other half was donated to Harvesters – The Community Food Network. Farmland also matched the raffle proceeds by donating up to 25,000 pounds of protein to the local food bank.
Farmland’s involvement in the community is commendable, and we had an incredible night while also contributing to a significant donation of proteins to families in need. It truly made for a perfect ending to a fantastic evening.

What an awesome experience! Few things in life are better than baseball, but bacon comes close.
