Chocolate Covered Strawberries – Valentine’s Day Recipe

Chocolate and Strawberries: A Romantic Delight

Chocolate paired with strawberries is the perfect representation of romance—creating a delightful harmony of flavors.

However, purchasing them pre-made can often come with a hefty price tag.

Luckily, I have discovered a simple and tasty method to prepare them that’s budget-friendly.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries for Valentine’s Day

Ingredients:

  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Chocolate Chips (semisweet or dark, based on your preference)
  • Cupcake Liners
  • Optional: Cooking Oil (such as peanut, canola, or vegetable oil)

Tip: If strawberries are out of season, finding tasty ones can be challenging. A good trick is to lift the container and sniff the openings at the bottom—if they smell sweet, they’re likely to taste delicious!

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate:
Place a generous handful of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe glass bowl. Heat in the microwave at 50% power for 2 minutes. Stir, then continue heating in 30-second intervals until fully melted. If the chocolate is too thick, mix in 1/4 teaspoon of oil to thin it out without becoming soupy.

Step 2: Cover the Strawberries:
Hold a strawberry by its leaves. Use a soup spoon to scoop a generous portion of chocolate. Pour the chocolate over the front of the strawberry, covering it from left to right, then roll the back of the strawberry in the remaining chocolate to coat it fully. This technique requires a bit of practice but gives a beautiful finish, compared to conventional dipping.

Step 3: Cool: Place the coated strawberries on waxed paper and, if desired, add sprinkles. For a decorative touch, you can melt some white or dark chocolate to drizzle over the top.

Step 4: Display: Once the chocolate has set, place the strawberries in cupcake liners and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.

  1. I love making chocolate covered strawberries for family and friends. We’ve even done this for our small church congregation on Valentine’s Day. The cost is minimal when we make them ourselves!
